GOOD-BYE APRIL —HELLO MAY

Filed under: Uncategorized — mpkane @ 1:57 pm

Dear Parents,
I’m sorry I missed blogging last week. We’ve been meeting with Dr. Hill and Ms. Campbell about changes at Ray and the teacher’s blogs were not at the top of the list. This is what IS at the top of the list.
*No more breakfast in the classroom. Students may eat in the lunch room before school, 8:20 – 8:40. Morning Fitness will take place from 8:45 until 9:05.
*No students are allowed to be in the hallways without a pass.
*No students are to go to the office for a “cool-off” break.  Behaviors have to be controlled!
These procedures are going to tighten up learning time and help Ray raise its rating.

MATH this week will be working with calculators and solving problems with large numbers.

SCIENCE and SOCIAL STUDIES are mostly project based so keeping up with the assignment and not waiting until the last minute is the key to a good grade.

If the weather is warm, students may have a water bottle. If they play with it – they lose that privilege.  And finally, please remember that Homework is a matter of responsibility.  If there is a legitimate reason homework did not get done, a parent or another adult must write me a note. (even a post-it note)

Thanks for your support.

APRIL 15 – 19

Reminder – Report Card Pick-Up is Wednesday this week. Students do not attend school but they are welcome to join us for the Parent Teacher Conference. It’s entirely up to you and convenience vs. inconvenience.

MATH – Rounding and Estimation continue. We will include more hands on activities such as guessing = “ESTIMATING” beans in a jar. When we are asked to ROUND to a place value, we absolutely HAVE TO know our place values. And, why is it useful to round to the hundreds or hundred-thousands place?

Science – which is the first period of the day, with Mr. Perez’ 4th grade class is covering the different systems of the human body. (digestive, circulatory, respiratory,…) Social Studies – which is the last period of the day back in Mr. Perez’ room is covering REGIONS of the United States.

In our effort to keep home-school communication SIMPLE, please keep the HOMEWORK folders cleaned out and write me a note if homework can’t get done.

Thanks for everything!

APRIL 8 – Four and a half days for students.

Reminder: Early dismissal for students on Friday. 12:15. Teachers have meetings.
Reminder #2: Report Card Pick-Up Wednesday, April 17.  Let me know when you want to come for the conference.
MATH: ESTIMATION – which involves a review of Place Value and Rounding. We can ESTIMATE so many things – amounts, distances, weights, totals, etc. This is a key concept and a practical skill!

Ms. Cargould’s Thematic Unit of Literacy and Art continues with discussing, writing and drawing.  They are relating text to self.

Hope everyone had a great Spring Break – restful, healthy and happy. Our brains should be “recharged” and ready to attack the next section of school work. It’s eight weeks until Memorial Day.
