HAPPY LEAP YEAR!

Leaping Lizards! Look Before You Leap. Let’s Play Leap Frog!

Five days of school this week and we continue to read, write, learn about the world in Social Studies AND work hard in math.

There will be a lot of review and in math in preparation for the ISATs. Many thanks for working in the ISAT COACH practice books at home. An overview of probability will be new this week.

I know the students complain about homework and it is not supposed to be hard. They should be practicing what they have been taught and taking on the responsibility of working independently. All that said, they may need a little help with reading directions. THANK YOU!

HAPPY 280th BIRTHDAY GEORGE WASHINGTON!

Filed under: Uncategorized — mpkane @ 9:19 pm

Did you know that George and Martha Washington were married almost 41 years and had no children? But he was the father of our country.

This week holds a big celebration at Ray School – the culmination of our African American History Month projects. Come to the Gallery Walk and Poetry Slam on Thursday at 5:30. Each classroom will display some of what they have learned about the experiences of African Americans.

Walk through the school and you’ll be amazed at the depth of knowledge. Sample African and African American food at the potluck donated by parents. Listen to student poets recite their original work on the theme of Heroes of African American History.  DON’T MISS THIS EVENT!

Room 210 students are building their skills everyday in Reading, Math, Social Studies and Writing. We are doing our best to prepare for the ISAT tests by reviewing the ISAT COACH books a little at a time. No one should worry about this test – just see it as an opportunity to learn more!

Thanks for all your help and don’t hesitate to contact me any time.

A Full Week In February

Filed under: Uncategorized — mpkane @ 9:00 am

YES! Five days this week and so much to do.
MATH – Understanding how fractions, decimals and percents are related. Students will be able to add and subtract fractions. We need to keep practicing the multiplication table in order to work with fractions.

SOCIAL STUDIES – In honor of African American Heritage Month, we will read about The Great Migration during the early 1900s and how population in the United States shifted. Please talk to your child about your family’s heritage and how Chicago came to be home.

Writing – Straight from Social Studies. We will learn to be editors both for our own writing and our classmates. Offering suggestions and questions about someone’s essay is a great help.

THANK YOU for any and all ISAT preparation help at home!

CALENDAR – Next week — No school on Monday, February 13.
Field Trip to Kenwood Academy for a lunchtime Choir Concert on Tuesday February 14. Parents are welcome to join us. We start walking over at 11:15.

Thank you for staying in touch with Ray School through Teacher Blogs.
